Korea Gene Center (KGC) is a genetic testing institution designated by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare. We analyse 16 or more genetic markers, including those designated by the U.S. FBI CODIS system, to deliver results with an accuracy of 99.99% or higher.
Two types of testing — please read first
Before applying, please make sure you choose the correct type. A Personal Information test cannot be submitted to any court or government office.
If your test is required for immigration, nationality, family registry or any other official procedure, you must apply for a Legal test.
Legal test (admissible)
- Accepted by courts and government agencies
- Photo ID verification is required, and sample collection must be witnessed by our staff
- Used for nationality acquisition, immigration, family registry correction, divorce, inheritance and similar procedures
- Samples cannot be collected at home or sent by courier
Personal Information test
- For your own information only — has no legal effect
- Names of tested persons are recorded anonymously
- Can be applied for remotely; samples may be sent by courier
- Cannot be used as evidence in any official procedure
※ If you are unsure which type you need, please contact us before collecting any sample. Re-testing requires a new sample and a new fee.

DNA profiling & identity testing
- Records and compares an individual's unique genetic profile
- Used to confirm identity or to identify foreign DNA on an item
- Contains no health information, so there is no risk of misuse
Accepted samples
- Standard — buccal swab (inside of cheek), hair with root (3–5 strands), blood (3 cc or more)
- Special — nails, toothbrush, saliva or bloodstains, skeletal remains
- Detection rates may vary with the condition of special samples

Results are normally issued within approximately 5–7 business days after your sample arrives. Please contact us if you require an expedited service.
How to collect your sample
Please collect the sample in a clean condition. Avoid eating, smoking and brushing your teeth for 30 minutes beforehand.
Buccal swab
The most common method — rub the swab against the inside of the cheek.
Hair with root
Pull out hair so that the root remains attached to the strand.
